Security operating a MEWP.

MEWPs are valuable tools for working at heights efficiently and safely. However, its use can also be dangerous if proper safety precautions are not taken. In this article, we will discuss some of the most important security precautions that need to be taken when trading a platform.

  • -Proper selection of the MEWP:

Choosing the right MEWP for the task at hand is crucial. You must select the one that has the appropriate height and load capacity for the work to be done. It’s important to remember that MEWPs have weight and height limitations, and exceeding them can endanger workers and the platform itself.

  •  Pre-use inspection:

Before operating it, it is important to perform a visual inspection to ensure that it is in good condition. Using the operating manual as a guide, brake systems, steering, tires, nameplates, controls, and safety devices should be checked. Any problems identified during the inspection should be isolated, labeled, and reported immediately. The MEWP should not be used until the necessary steps have been taken to remedy it.

  •  Stability verification:

The stability of the MEWP is critical to ensuring worker safety. Before using the MEWP, make sure it is on a flat, stable surface, and verify that the level sensor is working properly. Also if you have stabilizers, make sure they are fully extended and in contact with the ground.

  •  Proper use of the safety harness:

Safety harnesses are essential to prevent serious injury in the event of an accident. Workers must wear safety harnesses with connectors suitable for the MEWP they are working on. Make sure safety harnesses are fitted properly and that workers are familiar with their proper use.

  •  Speed limitations

MEWPs have automatic speed limitations (rabbit/turtle), although the operator must also be aware of these limitations on the job site and operate it at a safe speed

  •  Safe driving:

The safe driving of the MEWP is crucial to ensuring the safety of workers and the integrity of the MEWP. The operator must be trained to operate the MEWP and follow the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable safety regulations. Sudden maneuvers should be avoided and extra precautions should be taken when moving the MEWP near fixed objects, such as walls and poles.

  •  Constant monitoring:

Constant monitoring:  The MEWP operator must be constantly supervised by a properly trained worker in the event of an accident or emergency.
In short, safety is paramount when operating a MEWP. The necessary precautions must be taken to ensure that the platform is in good condition, used properly, and constantly monitored. In addition, workers must be trained to operate it.
